Particles is the latest installation by Daito Manabe and Motoi Ishibashi currently on exhibit at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media [YCAM]. The installation centers around a spiral-shaped rail construction on which a number of balls with built-in LEDs and xbee transmitters are rolling while blinking in different time intervals, resulting in spatial drawings of light particles.

This is an art installation which is able to create a visionary beautiful dots pattern of blinking innumerable illuminations floating in all directions on the air. The number of balls with a built-in LED, pass through one after another on the rail “8-spiral shape.” We see this phenomenon like “the light particle float around” because the balls radiate in various timing.

Imagine a waste bin (you heard me). Take that bin and fill it with compostable products like grass cuttings, tea bags, & cardboard (just do it). Now attach your new plant-worthy cell to the facade of an ugly building with thousands of other composting bins (don’t forget the plant).  You’re all finished! Now watch it grow, reduce CO2, collect rainfall for reuse, and transform your least favorite eyesores into a recycled, green, and overall cool looking structure. Now wasn’t that easy?

This, in essence, is what designer Stanislaw Mlynski was imagining when he designed the award winning Re-cell ecological wall. A big undertaking, maybe, but this design shows that there is relevant potential for similar modular systems in eco-cities of the future.

The Pallares chair by designer Carlos Cordoba is the result of a research to develop new materials from natural fibers. Each chair is composed of 3 identical parts cast from a natural fiber tetera and polyester resin composite. The interchangeable parts can snapped together like puzzle pieces for easy assembly, disassembly, and storage.

Daviddope aka dvdp ist Gründer des Design Ateliers volll in Budapest. Auf seiner Homepage steht, dass er die Gefahr liebt, denn er konsumiert 2 Liter Cola und 40 Zigaretten am Tag. Das dvdp Blog nennt er sein visuelles Chinatown, auf das er immer wieder neue faszinierende animierte Gifs hochlädt.

Elisa Strozyk studierte Textil- und Flächendesign an der Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee. Im vergangenen Jahr schloss sie ihr Studium mit dem Master in Future Textiles am Central St. Martins College in London ab. Heute lebt und arbeitet sie in Berlin.

In der Reihe “Wooden Textiles” vereint die Designerin die ungleichen Materialien Holz und Textilien, wofür sie den mit 8.000 Euro dotierten Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland erhielt.

Van Cleef & Arpels百年之美
